THE PRESIDENT SAYS HE’LL ACT ON IMMIGRATION. ON AUGUST 2nd, JOIN THE #NOT1MORE CAMPAIGN IN DC TO MAKE SURE OF IT.

After months of shutting down ICE offices, signing petitions, filing briefs, educating elected officials, and breaking ICE’s hold on local jurisdictions, the pressure on the President has broken through. He has announced that immigration policy will no longer be submitted to a legislative strategy and he will do what’s in his power to “fix” the system.

We got to this moment because of everyone pushing on all fronts, individuals refusing to be removed and instead asserting their right to remain. Towns prioritizing public safety over the dirty work of deportation. Hundreds in motion on the National Day of Action on April 5th.

Now is not a time for cosmetic changes or tweaks to a system that is not just broken but unjust. What may once have been considered “going big” is now just common sense for the President to reverse his record deportations and right his policies to expand relief to the fullest extent possible under the law.

August 2nd Not1More Deportation March Flyer

EL PRESIDENTE dice que va a tomar acción en el tema de inmigración. El 2 de agosto, únase a la campaña #NI1MAS EN DC PARA ASEGURARSE QUE ASÍ LO HARÁ.

Después de meses de cerrar oficinas de ICE, firmar peticiones, presentar informes, educar a los funcionarios electos y romper el dominio de ICE en jurisdicciones locales, el Presidente ya está sintiendo la presión. Él ha anunciado que la política de inmigración ya no se basará en una estrategia legislativa y que hará lo que está en su poder para “arreglar” el sistema.

Hemos llegado a este punto debido a que todos hemos empujado desde todos los frentes: las personas que se negaron a moverse y en cambio hicieron valer su derecho a permanecer, las ciudades que priorizaron la seguridad pública en vez del sucio trabajo de la deportación, los cientos de personas que se movilizaron en el Día Nacional de Acción el 5 de abril, entre otros.

Ahora no es el momento para cambios cosméticos o ajustes pequeños a un sistema que no sólo esta roto, sino que es injusto. Lo que alguna vez pudo ser considerado “un cambio relevante”, ahora debería ser tan sólo sentido común para que el Presidente revierta su récord de deportaciones y rectifique su política para ampliar el alivio en la mayor medida posible en virtud de la ley.
