After making an impossible choice to accept a plea bargain with immigration consequences, 14 people are facing deportation after being swept up in Arpaio’s raid on Sportex Apparel in February. ICE can choose not to accept them, and immediately halt their deportations.
Other than the consequences of Arpaio’s unjust workplace raids, they have no criminal history or past encounters with immigration authorities.
Those facing deportation are mothers, grandmothers, aunts, fathers, uncles, and grandfathers. They need your support today, so that they can return to their families, where they belong.
If these workers lived anywhere but Arizona, they would be eagerly awaiting a future pathway to citizenship likely to be included in immigration reform. Instead, they may be separated from their families merely for working for a better life.
I am writing to ask that you take immediate action to stop the deportations of those arrested in Arpaio’s latest raid. Leticia Garcia-Sanchez (#A 205-920-774), Maria de los Angeles Gutierrez-Hernandez (#A 205-920-766), Martha Gutierrez-Gutierrez (#A 205-920-765), Maria Alicia Mora-Rojas, Rosa Avitia-Gandara, Maria Garcia-Marquez, Maria Arvallo-Olvera, Elvira Gutierrez-Hernandez (A# 205-920-773), Raquel Roman-Hernandez, Marisol Gonzales-Canales (A# 205-920-805), Fernando Criollo-Sanchez (A# 205-920-804), Ivone Criollo-Gutierrez (A# 205-920-772), and Elia Irene Valenzuela-Lopez all have no previous encounters with immigration or criminal authorities, other than being arrested by Arpaio during one of his unjust workplace raids. If these workers lived anywhere but Arizona, they would be eagerly awaiting a future pathway to citizenship likely to be included in immigration reform. Instead, they may be separated from their families merely for working for a better life. You have the opportunity to do the right thing: don’t deport Arpaio and Montgomery’s victims. Working is not a crime! I look forward to your response.
