#Not1More Deportation

Sanctuary Last Hope for Pregnant Mother in Georgia Fighting Deportation

Screen shot 2015-08-17 at 4.17.17 PMClaudia Jurado fled El Salvador after criminal groups threatened her when she was unable to pay extorsion. Fearing for her life and that of her children Claudia came to the United States seeking asylum, but on July 31st an immigration judge denied her application and ordered her deportation.

Claudia’s fear of deportation back to a country where her life is in danger led her to take refuge at a church in Georgia along with her two-year-old. Now 4 months preagnant, she is seeking support from the community to stop her deportation.

Back in El Salvador Claudia worked tirelessly to have enough money to raise her children and to pay “rent,”  a weekly fee of $100, to ensure her family would not be harmed by extortionist groups in her town. After a year filled with violent threats and unable to make any more “rent” payments Claudia decided to leave the country.

Claudia was detained at the border and released last December. She has been fighting her case but her biggest fear became a reality when a judge denied her asylum last month. Claudia’s entire family lives in the United States, her siblings and grandmother are U.S. citizens. If deported back to El Salvador Claudia, Josue Alexander and the baby she’s expecting will face imminent danger.

Even though her asylum application was denied, Claudia continues to fight to stay in this country. She is now requesting the Georgia ICE office to use prosecutorial discretion to stop her deportation. Please sign to support Claudia.

Update: After many calls, signatures and community support ICE granted Claudia a stay of removal and she will not be deported back to El Salvador. Claudia can now leave the church were she sought sanctuary and continue fighting her immigration case. Thank you for your support.

Dear Assistant Director J.D. Thorp,

I am writing in support of Ms. Claudia Jurado (A# 202- 144-950), a pregnant woman and mother of two young children, who faces imminent danger if deported back to El Salvador.

Claudia Jurado fled El Salvador after criminal groups threatened her when she was unable to pay extorsion money. Fearing for her life and that of her children Claudia came to the United States seeking asylum, but on July 31st an immigration judge denied her asylum application and ordered her deportation. Claudia’s fear of deportation back to a country where her life is in danger led her to take refuge at a church in Georgia along with her two-year-old. She has been in Sanctuary since the beginning of August.

Claudia is 4 months pregnant, her life and that of her baby would be in danger if she is sent back to her country.

Claudia was detained at the border and released on her own recognizance in December 2014. She has been fighting her asylum case outside of detention but her biggest fear became a reality when a judge denied her asylum claims last month.

I urge you to consider use of prosecutorial discretion to stop her deportation.

Thank you,
