These 13 migrants are part of the Association of Migrants Returned with Disabilities (Asociación de Migrantes Retornados con Discapacidad [AMIREDIS] in Spanish), left Honduras last February 26th and crossed Guatemala and Mexico where they met with civil society and government officials and were arrested on Thursday, March 19th, at the international bridge in Eagle Pass, TX, in order to enter the US to go to Washington to tell their story.
Mr. President,
I urge you to grant Humanitarian Asylum to a group of 13 Honduran migrants whose bodies have been mutilated by the infamous train known as “The Beast” (La Bestia) while migrating to the United States. These brave migrants represent hundreds, perhaps thousands, of others who have lost arms, legs, and even their lives, while crossing Mexico to search for a better life here in the U.S.
These brave people were detained at the Port of Entry in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Thursday, March 19th, and would like to meet with you today and tell their story of suffering and the reasons why they were forced to leave their homelands and ultimately lose their limbs on their journey for a better life in this country.
We urge you to do the right thing so that you can see the consequences of inhumane immigration and border security policies.
