Jose Ucelo Gonzalez is a day laborer who is facing deportation because his shady boss called the police instead of paying him for the work he completed. All charges against Jose were dropped after it became clear that the employer — who refused to pay Jose for his hard work — was the real criminal. But by then, Jose had already been transferred to immigration officials. Instead of his paycheck, he now faces the possibility of deportation and separation from his baby son.
Jose is a father and civil rights leader with no criminal record. He has filed a lawsuit against his employer to make sure that what happened to him doesn’t happen to other day laborers. If he is deported, his employer will never face justice. ICE should use its discretion and close his case.
