#Not1More Deportation

Hispanic Caucus: Tell the President to Stop Deportations NOW.

The calls for #not1more deportation reflect a new consensus that the President’s deportation policy must change regardless of what happens in Congress this year.

In 2011, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus spoke out when it called for a moratorium on Secure Communities. But this year, they’ve yet to add their voice to the chorus of voices calling upon the President to suspend deportations now. While Republicans hold the debate hostage with vigilante politics and Birther proposals, the President has reportedly asked the CHC to delay its statement calling for new strategy.

Tell Hispanic Caucus members that we can’t wait for relief.  The President can act today and they have the responsibility to be a voice calling on him to do so.

Dear members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus,

As the voice of Latinos in Congress, we ask you to draw from the courage immigrants have shown to put the issue of equality onto the national agenda.

Nativists House Republicans have held immigration reform hostage through their vigilante politics. It’s time to confront, and not acquiesce, the very people who accused President Obama of being an undocumented immigrant. A suspension of deportations now is the necessary to provide relief for families, and it’s next step to open a pathway to citizenship.

Please make a strong call for President Obama to act immediately to the fullest extent possible under the law: Suspend deportations, expand DACA, and end Secure Communities once and for all.
