FranciscoFrancisco Ivan Avila Canela is detained at York County Correctional Facility. He is the father of 2 U.S. citizen children, who are 9 and 3 years old and has been living in the United States for a decade now. He is a cook in two restaurants and resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania, known for caring about his community and family.

Francisco was picked up by ICE on April 21st, 2014 as he was finishing doing laundry with his family. As he was about to drive home from the laundry mat he was asked out of his car by ICE agents and arrested in front of his wife and children. His wife suffers from epilepsy and despite her doctor’s warnings is currently working two jobs to support her children while her husband is detained. While living in Mexico Francisco had been kidnapped and ransomed. His family was able to pay for the ransom and he was released, but the experience has obviously left Francisco scared to return to Mexico. On August 6th he passed his reasonable fear interview but is continuing to be held.

Ask Philadelphia’s Regional Director, Thomas Decker, to allow Francisco to be released and fight his immigration case from home with his family.

Update: On January 7, 2015 ICE released Francisco from detention. His case is not over yet, but now Francisco has the chance to continue fighting his immigration case outside of detention. His wife and children are happy and relieved to have him home again.

“Thank you to everyone that took a minute of their time to sign the petition and make calls to ICE in support of my husband. Your support made it possible for our family to be reunited once again. Francisco’s case is not over yet but we will continue fighting and we will continue to support other families in our situation.” – Blanca, Francisco’s wife.

Message sent to ICE Field Director for Francisco

Thomas Decker, Philadelphia Field Office DIrector
Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Director Decker,

I am writing with great concern for the case of Mr. Francisco Ivan Avila Canela (A#200688743), who is currently detained at York County Correctional Facility. I write in support of his request to be released pending resolution to his case.

He is the father of 2 U.S. citizen children, who are 9 and 3 years old and has been living in the United States for a decade now. He is a cook in two restaurants and resident of Norristown, Pennsylvania, known for caring about his community and family.

I ask you to please consider Mr. Avila Canela’s request to be released and fight his immigration case from home with his family.

Thank you,
