#Not1More Deportation

Georgia High School Junior Detained by ICE on Her Way to School

Kimberly pictureKimberly Pineda Chavez is a 19 year high school junior from from Atlanta, Georgia. She came to the US from Honduras along with her family to escape the violence and threats from police department because her family was unable to pay the extortion amounts.

On January 27, 2016 Kimberly was headed to school with her aunt and her cousin when they were pulled over by Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) agents who demanded that she get out of the vehicle. When Kimberly attempted to assert her rights and asked to see a warrant, she was threaten by the ICE agents with the detention of her aunt and cousin if Kimberly did not follow orders.

Currently, Kimberly is detained at the Irwin Detention Center and ICE has stated that she will be deported sometime this week to Honduras.

Kimberly and her family fled from their homeland of Honduras in September of 2014 after receiving multiple threats from the police in her town. After the family was victim of several raids conducted by the Honduran police, during which agents stole all valuables from their home, the police began demanding payments. When the family was unable to pay, they began to receive calls in the middle of the night threatening to kidnap and rape Kimberly and her siblings. Fearing for their safety, the family left everything behinds and fled to escape from the Honduran Police.

We are demanding that Kimberly be released from detention in positive exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Please sign the petition to demand Kimberly’s release.
